Magic of the Basset Horn |
Feb 1, 2008 |
On Saturday, February 23,2008 at 8 p.m. the Academy Concert Series will present "Magic of the Basset Horn". Experience the Magic of Mozart’s Divertimenti and Notturni for the first time in Toronto performed on original, historic instruments by Colin Savage, basset horn; Stephen Fox, basset horn; Nicolai Tarasov, basset horn together with Michele DeBoer, soprano; Ariel Harwood-Jones, soprano, and Esteban Cambre, bass-baritone. Mozart admired the magical, otherworldly sound of the basset horn, a rare and oddly-shaped instrument of the clarinet family. Many believe that the basset horn became Mozart’s favourite wind instrument, and he used it ingeniously. For this programme, we have the rare opportunity to bring not one, but three historical basset horn players together to perform music composed by Mozart specifically for these instruments– Divertimenti KV 4399b, Notturni for Basset Horn Trio and Voices KV 436-439,346,549,and more. The concert will take place at Eastminster United Church, 310 Danforth Avenue, Toronto (between the Broadview and Chester subway stations). Tickets are $15 (regular) and $10 (students/seniors). To reserve tickets or for further information, please call the Academy Concert Series at 416-927-9089 or visit www.academyconcertseries.com |
