Ad #33027 "Les Six" – Chamber Music from Montparnasse Mar 21, 2008
On Saturday, April 19,2008 at 8 p.m., The Academy Concert Series will present " Les Six", an evening of chamber music by “Le GROUP DES SIX” - Auric, Durey, Honegger, Milhaud, Poulenc and Taileferre. Performance by Nicolai Tarasov (clarinet), Jani Papadhimitri (violin), and Alexander Kats (piano).
“Le Group des Six” was an alliance of composers working in Montparnesse, the heart of intellectual and artistic life in Paris in the first half of the 20th century. Inspired by the sounds of the urban life, “Les Six” created an innovative style full of elegance, imagination, irony and typical French musical charm. This programme features well-known favourites and a few surprise compositions. Join us and amuzes-vous bien!
The concert takes place at the Eastminster United Church, 310 Danforth Avenue, Toronto (between Broadview and Chester subway stations). Tickets are $15 (regular) and $10 (students/seniors). Ad #32838 Magic of the Basset Horn Feb 1, 2008
On Saturday, February 23,2008 at 8 p.m. the Academy Concert Series will present "Magic of the Basset Horn". Experience the Magic of Mozart’s Divertimenti and Notturni for the first time in Toronto performed on original, historic instruments by Colin Savage, basset horn; Stephen Fox, basset horn; Nicolai Tarasov, basset horn together with Michele DeBoer, soprano; Ariel Harwood-Jones, soprano, and Esteban Cambre, bass-baritone.
Mozart admired the magical, otherworldly sound of the basset horn, a rare and oddly-shaped instrument of the clarinet family. Many believe that the basset horn became Mozart’s favourite wind instrument, and he used it ingeniously. For this programme, we have the rare opportunity to bring not one, but three historical basset horn players together to perform music composed by Mozart specifically for these instruments– Divertimenti KV 4399b, Notturni for Basset Horn Trio and Voices KV 436-439,346,549,and more.
The concert will take place at Eastminster United Church, 310 Danforth Avenue, Toronto (between the Broadview and Chester subway stations). Tickets are $15 (regular) and $10 (students/seniors). To reserve tickets or for further information, please call the Academy Concert Series at 416-927-9089 or visit www.academyconcertseries.com
